This site lets readers listen to The Number You Don’t Say by Sipho Mahayi before it launches on Amazon. It is run by Sipho Mahayi (McBeth Kings), South Africa. This page explains what we collect and what we do with it, in line with South Africa’s Protection of Personal Information Act (POPIA).
What we collect
- From your Google account, when you sign in: your name, email address and profile picture. We never see your Google password.
- Your listening progress: which chapter you are on and where you stopped, so you can carry on from any device.
- Your contact choices: whether you asked to hear about the launch by email, and when you made that choice.
- Your WhatsApp number — only if you give it to us. It is optional, asked for separately, and stored with the date you added it.
- Dates: when you joined and when you last listened.
Why we use it
- To let you in, stream the audiobook to you and remember your place.
- To understand, in total, how far readers get through the book.
- To email you about the book’s launch and future books — only if you ticked the box. You can change this any time from the account menu (your initials, top right) or by replying to any email.
- To send you launch news on WhatsApp — only if you added your number. Remove it any time from the account menu (“WhatsApp updates”), or reply STOP to any message.
We do not sell, rent or share your details with anyone. We do not use advertising or tracking tools.
Cookies
We set one cookie, which keeps you signed in. Google’s sign-in button may set its own cookies when you use it; see Google’s privacy policy. Your player settings (theme, text size, speed) are stored only in your browser.
Where it is kept
Your details are stored on our own server and are only accessible to the author. The audiobook streams to your device and cannot be downloaded.
How long we keep it
For as long as you keep your access, and no longer than needed for the book’s launch and related updates. Ask us and we will delete your details.
Your rights
You can ask to see the information we hold about you, have it corrected, or have it deleted, and you can withdraw your email or WhatsApp consent at any time. Email macbethkings0@gmail.com and we will respond within 30 days. If you are unhappy with how we handle your information, you can complain to the Information Regulator (South Africa).
